When our bookmaker first suggested vellum paper as a potential paper type for The Mrs. Book, I tilted my head and shot her a look of hesitancy.

“Isn’t vellum the clear paper that usually comes with fancy invitations?” I thought. But she insisted its texture and heavier weight would be great for writing on and achieving the overall feel I was going for.

Fast forward one week to when I received the sample pages of the book printed on various types of paper— the vellum paper was the winner, by a long shot.

Inside the Pages of The Mrs. Book

The vellum pages were not the transparent sheets I was picturing (thank goodness). These vellum pages were blended with cotton and had an opaque, cloth-like look and feel to them.

They felt much more substantial than the smooth white paper alternatives—there was an heirloom-quality feel to them. I could imagine our brides writing on them and running their hands over the finished pages.

The Mrs. Book is a modern bridal memory book, grounded in tradition and timeless quality. Our pages are printed on a luxurious, modern cotton vellum paper.

The History of Vellum

Historically (dating back to the Medieval Period) vellum was made from calfskin and had the ability to last over 1,000 years if properly cared for.

Because of this, it has used for printing holy documents such as the Jewish Torah, Bible, and Buddhist manuscripts. Select government documents are still printed on vellum, such as the British Acts of Parliament.

Your Piece of History

I love that each copy of The Mrs. Book will go on to become a piece of history.

It wasn’t just the archival roots of vellum paper that sold me, I selected it for The Mrs. Book for its durability, texture & heirloom-quality feel, and ability to hold ink. With the creation of The Mrs. Book, all materials that make up the book itself were hand-selected to ensure that The Mrs. Book and its contents stand the test of time.

We will be launching very soon! Hope you’ll love our vellum paper pages as much as I do!
